New Audi Q7 Diesel TDI
Will the first production Audi with the V12 TDI be a Q7? The rumor was that the Q7 would be the first Audi production car to run the Le Mans winning diesel V12 engine derived from the Audi R10. Buit it doesn't seem to shaping up that way.
The Audi Q7 TDI V12 concept car shown during the 2007 Auto Show circuit put out 493 horsepower and 738 lb/ft (1000 Nm) of torque delivered to all four wheels via a 6-speed tiptronic gear box. Does anybody else get excited about a SUV with a 0-60 time of around 5.5 seconds? Or a little sad about a 155 mph, electronically limited, top speed?
The concept V12 Q7 had a re-worked front end featuring larger air intakes on either side of the grille, and flush fitting exhausts blending into the rear bumper. But some of the lower front bits look like they came straight from the current Off Road Package. We won't see a V12 Q7 for 2008 but we can always hope for it in 2009 or later.
In the mean time, the 2009 Q7 destined for the USA will have a 3.0 TDI with ultra-low emission system available. The same 3.0 TDI will also be available, eventually, in the new A4 also coming to the USA in 2009.
